Musa Shaba, a student of Glisten International Academy, Abuja, has bagged 7 awards to emerge the recipient of the star prize award for outstanding academic excellence.
Shaba, who hopes to become a software engineer, received the awards on Saturday during the schools 10th graduation ceremony.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he was excited to be the best graduating student and advised students to take their academic work seriously.
“I am very excited for all the awards I got today, I am grateful to God.
“I also urge all student at all levels to take their academic work seriously,” Shaba said.
Shaba’s father, Abdulsalam, also expressed gratitude to God.
“My son has made us proud and he also took after his older brother who graduated from here and has been making us proud.
“I urge all parents to start any education with their wards from home and give maximum support in all areas to them,” Shaba’s father said.
Another student, Aisha MaiBorno, said she was just happy to be through with secondary school and take on the next stage of her academic life.
MaiBorno, who hopes to be an Architect, encouraged students to remain focused and not let anything or anyone deter them from reaching their full potential.
In separate interviews, some of the parents who spoke with NAN, expressed their gratitude to God for the successful completion of the secondary education of their wards.
David Musa, an uncle to one of the graduating students wished all of them more academic success and excellence.
Musa stressed the need for parents to prayerfully nurture their children and be good examples for them to emulate.
Earlier in her opening remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of the school, Mrs Samira Jibir had in her welcome address congratulated the graduating students.
Jibir referred to the years spent by the students in school as “years of legacy” on which they would build their future.
She commended the students for their critical thinking, collaboration, perseverance, resilience, commitment and having the fear of God.
She urged the students to make the right choices to shape their future and to continue to heroes and not victims.
According to her, the future of work and education is overridden by digital technology and academic excellence is possible, despite all odds.
“Continue to be flag bearers of all the skills that you have learnt here.

“Know that the future of work is here and let skills like enterprise, problem solving, critical thinking always be your ethics,” Jibir said.
The Executive Director of the school, Mr Abba Saidu, said students of the school “always stand out from their counterparts” because of “the glisten effect”.
According to him, the students have been trained in leadership, character and academic excellence to be able to compete globally with their counterparts.
“Hard work, good character and innovative skills which has been instilled in the students will help them carry on in the world.
“I want to tell the graduating students that a big world is waiting for their talents and innovation,” Saidu said.
Gistflash Media learnt that Shaba got awards for first runner up in the technology department category, digital and enterprising person of the year and golden flag bearer of the year award, among others.
Outstanding students from other departments like sciences, technology, humanities and business also received awards. (NAN)
