Ministry of Humanitarian affairs, Disaster Management and Social iIvestment, has urged State Governments to ensure that its social security welfare programme reached the poor and vulnerable people at the grassroots.
Sadiya Umar- Farouk, Minister of Humanitarian affairs, Disaster Management and social investment, said this when she presented engagement letters and palm-top computers to 108 independent monitors of the social investment programme in Katsina on Sunday.
Represented by Malam Aminu Tukur, Director, Communication Technology in the Ministry, Umar-Farouk said the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP}, was launched in 2016 to carry out social interventions towards tackling extreme poverty and empower vulnerable Nigerians with sustainable means of livelihood.
She explained that the ministry also supervised the N-power, Conditional Cash Transfer schemes, the home grown school feeding programme and the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP).
“It in view of this that we engaged 108 independent monitors to supervise the programme in Kastsina State to ensure transparency in the implementation of the scheme.
“The 108 independent monitors engaged in Katsina State were deployed to every nook and cranny to closely monitor the implementation of the NSIP, ” she said.
