Gunmen Kidnap Taraba NLC chairman

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Comrade Peter Jediel, the Taraba State chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
The victim’s younger brother, Fidelis, who confirmed the incident, said the chairman was kidnapped in his house in Sunkani, Ardo- Kola local government area of Taraba at around 1:am on Sunday, February 7.

“I was not there though, but his wife told me that the kidnappers came in numbers and forced their way into the house. They met him watching television in the parlour and forced him out of the house at gunpoint. No one around us could make attempt of rescuing the chairman because the kidnappers were heavily armed and were shooting sporadically,” Fidelis told Nigerian Truibune.
Fidelis said that the kidnappers have since not established contact with the family, adding that incident has been reported to the policeand they have since visited the scene for details.

According to NAN, he was shot on Friday night on his way to Ayetoro Ekiti, a neighboring community in Ido/Osi LGA.
The traditional ruler, however, escaped with injuries on his legs, arms and stomach, and he is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed tertiary medical facility.
Sunday Abutu, the state police spokesman, confirmed the incident.
Abutu said the command is worried that such an attack could be launched in spite of unrelenting joint security patrol and raiding of black-spots to dislodge criminals.
He, however, said the police command in the state is committed to ridding the state of criminals and assured the residents that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

The spokesman said the command will continue to work with other security agencies to ensure that criminality is wiped out in Ekiti.
Reacting to the incident, Ekiti state council of Obas called on security agencies to apprehend the hoodlums and bring them to justice.
Adebanji Alabi, chairman of the council, expressed concern over the rise in banditry and other criminal activities in the country.
He asked the government and security agencies to raise their level of surveillance in the state with a view to reducing crime.

Owerri Prison Break: IPOB & ESN Members attack Imo State Police Headquarter (Photos)

Inspector-General of Police IGP Mohammed Adamu, said IPOB and ESN members allegedly carried out a prison break with modern weapons such as General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), Sub-Machine Guns (SMGs), AK49 rifles, Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), come for di operation.
The IGP spokesperson CP Frank Mba said, ” the attempt by the attackers to gain access to the store where police keep there weapons at the Headquarters failed as the officers on duty did not allow them.
However, the place where Police keep there weapons are intact and the police has no record of death apart from the Police constable that sustained a minor bullet wound around his shoulder.
“the IGP has directed the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command and one new Special Investigation Team (which was set up specifically to deal with cases of incessant attacks on security formation/operatives in the region), to carry out holistic investigations on the incident and the culprits to justice “

IPOB has challenged us, we will rise to the occasion – Gov. Uzodimma
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma says this is a challenge to the Sate government and they will rise up to the challenge which the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) has brought to them.
Governor Uzodimma said this during his interview with the press after inspecting the level of damage incurred by the attack.
Gistflash gathered that this is the second major attack in Imo State this 2021 – On January 25, 2021, According to reports, this same gunmen took this attack to Orlu where they killed some traders and soldiers.
Nigerian troops for one joint operation which involve Army, Air Force and the Police later attacked the armed IPOB members in response to the Orlu incident.

“Nobody died in the incident. the lifeless body seen earlier was just one unconscious person as a result of the shock of the incident. Government is collaborating with security agencies to ensure this doesnt happen again.

The Prison Break in Owerri
Gunmen on Monday attacked the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) in Owerri, Imo state capital for south east Nigeria. Gistflash gathered that, this incident happened around midnight and its not clear if prisoners escaped from the prison.
According to reports, one inmate was shot as he tried to escape. About 30 vehicles were burned down inside the police headquarters. the police headquarters is opposite the Imo state government house.
the Federal Prisons now Nigeria Correctional Centre, Owerri, was originally built to accommodate 548 inmates, however, it currently house over 1,700 inmates.
In 2016, one Henry Chibueze, also known as Vampire escaped from Imo High Court premises following a shootout between gunmen and security operatives.
In this incident, the gunmen open fire on the security operatives and inmates at the court premises with over 50 inmates from the prisons – though police later kill Vampire after one sting operation in 2017, armed gunmen still disturb in Imo State with several attacks on police officers in different parts of the state.

5 Kidnapped students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanization in Kaduna regain their freedom

Five of the kidnapped students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization in Kaduna state have regained their freedom.
A statement released by the state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, says the Nigerian military informed the state government that five of the many kidnapped students were recovered this afternoon and are presently in a military facility where they are undergoing a thorough medical check-up.

Aruwan added that the state government will provide updates on further operational feedback to be received on this case.
Gunmen stormed the school in the early hours of Friday, March 12, and abducted the students. While 180 of the students were rescued by the troops later in the day, 39 of them comprising 23 females and 16 males were still in captivity. With five rescued, the total number of students in captivity stands at 34.
