NYSC on Monday in Mangu, Plateau, charged corps members to seamlessly integrate and respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities.
Its State Coordinator in Plateau, Ms Caroline Embu, gave the charge while addressing the 2021 batch “B’’ stream 11 corps members at their formal closing and passing out from the orientation programme.
She gave the charge on behalf of NYSC’s Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, whom she represented at the ceremony.
She urged the corps members to serve as ambassadors of the NYSC by offering selfless service and by being instruments of unity in their host communities.
Ms Embu also challenged the corps members to participate in the post-camp Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme (SAED) and become proficient in a particular skill.
She said such proficiency would equip them for self-development and service which would in turn improve their socioeconomic status after their service year.
She warned the corps members to shun unnecessary and unauthorised journeys, especially night journeys which management abhorred.
The coordinator cautioned corps members to terminate long-distance journey anytime it was it was 6 p.m. and lodge at any security outpost.
She also advised corps members to desist from engaging in local politics, but to accept their posting to the various local governments areas in good faith.
Ms Embu said the NYSC management was working in synergy with security agencies to ensure the safety and security of corps members.
She encouraged corps members to take the COVID-19 vaccines and should in like manner encourage those in their host communities to adhere to its safety protocols.
On behalf of Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim, the coordinator thanked state governments for supporting and creating environment conducive for NYSC activities.
