Iraqi Special Forces Captures ISIS Commander ‘Abdul Nasser Qirdash’ in a Raid
The country’s national intelligence service ‘Iraqi special forces’ has claims that ISIS commander ‘Abdul Nasser Qirdash’ has been captured on Wednesday, May 20th.
According to the statements of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service reported by Al-Arabiya, the terrorist ‘Abdul Nasser Qirdash’ is the next candidate to succeed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as head of ISIS. The arrest came after accurate intelligence.
Former head of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi died in October 2019 when US forces stormed his compound in northwestern Syria. He detonated his own suicide vest during the targeted raid on his life in Syria’s Idlib province and killed three of his children in the blast.
Al-Qirdash had served as the head of the negotiations committee within ISIS. He had also worked with the organization as a leader during the time of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Most recently, al-Qirdash was in charge of the battles for al-Baghouz in Syria, a small town in the province of Deir ez-Zor close to the Iraqi border and the final stronghold for ISIS.
Speaking to Al Arabiya, al-Qirdash confirmed that ISIS leadership, at the request of al-Baghdadi, reevaluated the terrorist group’s ideas after in recent years after it began losing many of its strongholds.
“There was a massive reevaluation of the Islamic State after it lost vast areas including Kobani and many other areas. There were three of us, myself, Omar al-Furkan and Ayoub Rakawi, who sat with the leadership to review our steps,” al-Qirdash told Al Arabiya.
“He served as the head of the commission authorised by the terrorist organisation Daesh, and he worked with the organisation as a leader from the time of the terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi until the battles of al-Baghouz that he led himself.”
Details on how he was captured or where the operation took place have not been revealed yet.
