Gworok community in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna on Sunday gave special medals of honour to Sen. Danjuma La’ah and Rep. Gideon Gwani, Deputy Minority Whip in the House of Representatives.
Others included Prof. Williams Qurix, Vice-Chancellor of Bingham University, Prof. Hauwa’u Yusuf, Prof. Helen Andow, Prof. Benjamin Gugong, all of the Kaduna State University; Prof. Duniya Didam, Prof. Boniface Kashina, Prof. Andrew Suku and Prof. Daniel Aba, all of ABU, Zaria.
Also recognised were Brig. Gen Henry Yanet, Air Commodore Atang Sambo, Air Commodore Titus Dauda, Justice Dagat Kanyioh, Justice Edward Andow, Mal. Bayero Salih-Farah and Samuel Manshop.
Speaking at the ceremony held in Kagoro, Polycarp Didam, Chairman of Gworok Think Thank, organisers of the event, said the awardees were sons and daughters of Gworok land who had distinguished themselves in various fields of human endeavour.
According to him, they were honoured because their achievements were in consonance with the ideals of Gworok land.
“The world over, communities appreciate their citizens who have distinguished themselves in different fields of endeavours.
“This ultimately works for the benefits of such communities. We are therefore on the right path.
“It is expected that this exercise will help us to work together to bring back the lost glory of Gworok Land,” he added
He tasked the awardees to use their positions and influence to bring development to Gworok land.
He also enjoined them to mentor the younger generation as part of their social responsibility to the community.
Also speaking, Mr Ishaya Akau, former Director General of the defunct Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P), said the exploits of Gworok’s sons and daughters had placed the community on a high pedestal.
Akau enjoined the recipients of the awards to act as catalysts for ideas and activities that would accelerate the development of Gworok land.
He further commended Gworok Think Thank for working to proffer practical solutions to developmental issues in Gworok land.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Prof. Benjamin Gugong thanked the community for finding them worthy of recognition.
Gugong said that such recognition would spur the awardees to greater heights, while pledging their resolve to contribute to the development of Gworok land.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the special medals were handed over to the recipients by the Chief of Kagoro, Dr Ufuwai Bonet.
