GAIN Africa Community Initiative organized a community development outreach tagged, “2020 School Project: Educate Vulnerable Girl Child” at Government Junior Secondary School Sheda, Kwali Abuja on Tuesday, 10th.
The Principal Mrs. Titilayo Ayeni of Government Secondary School Sheda, Kwali Abuja in her opening speech expressed her joy over the visitation of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), GAIN Africa Community Initiative. The Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) was fully represented by the Gender Officer, Mrs. Nafisah Kote who encouraged the female students to focused in their educational pursuit as that is the key to any woman whose dream is to be influential in the society.
The Executive Director of the NGO, Julius Ogakwu Ogbaji in his speech stated the vision of GAIN Africa Community Initiative which is “ To give lives true meaning”. In his interview he expressed the inspiration that gave birth to the GAIN Africa Community Initiative which he linked to the story of his childhood background and his passion for the girl child education. He also stated that 192 female students were reached in this course which is quite fulfilling.
He said, “If you train a male child, you train an individual but if you train a female child, you train a nation”.
The Program Officer, Yahaya Ojonugwa sensitized the female students on Mentral Hygiene and general Sanitation. In her interview, she said what inspired her to join GAIN is her passion for children and community development. Best Wodi, one of the facilitators of the NGO advised the students on the Importance of Entrepreneurship as a lady and encouraged them to acquire skills that will enable them stay self-employed.
Mr Julius, Arubi Isaac and Mrs. Kote shared new set of school uniforms, Exercise books and other materials to the less-privileged students in the school. In the interview sections with some students in the school; Akubo Deborah, Nazara Precious and Isaac Janet expressed their gratitude over the materials shared to the students at the outreach and advised the girls out there to take care of themselves, abstain from illicit advances from men and stand up for their human rights in the society.
