It was a black Sunday in Lagos State as a boarding school identified as Bethlehem Girls College was destroyed by the pipeline explosion in Abule-Ado community at early hours of today.
The students of Bethlehem Girls Secondary School were victims of the gas explosion at Abule-Ado close to FESTAC area of Lagos State. This girl’s boarding school was completely destroyed, many students got seriously injured in the process of evacuating the hostel due to the explosion. Also, lots of properties and residential buildings were burnt down at Abule- Ado Junction and some lives were lost this Sunday morning.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his concerns with families of those who were affected by explosion in Abule Ado, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State. In his statement, he said: “I have received with sadness the news of this unfortunate incident which caused loss of lives and property. A misfortune of whatever scale anywhere is a tragedy to the country, and while the NNPC makes efforts to determine the cause of the incident, I send my deepest and profound sympathizes to the victims, their families, government and people of Lagos State.”
The All Progressives Congress, APC, also expressed their concerns with victims as the explosion led to the death of about five people, many injured and properties worth millions destroyed.
According to the statement of the APC’s spokesperson, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu who expressed shock at the incident, they hope that the Lagos State Government would implement measures that would bring succor to the victims.
The statement reads: “We commend the emergency response led by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Fire Service and other agencies in quickly containing the incident and attending to injured victims of the explosion.
“While the party deeply condoles with families and loved ones over recorded deaths, we also wish the injured a speedy and full recovery and sympathize with residents who lost property in the explosion. We are confident that the Lagos state government will implement measures to bring succor to the victims.”
